GAFIRS at the Show

Gosport and Fareham Inshore Rescue Service has been presented with an £800 cheque at the PSP Southampton Boat show, as a thank you by grateful boat owners for the help they provide.

The money was raised by berth holders at Haslar Marina. The rescue service relies entirely on voluntary donations and Charity President and Mayor of Gosport John Beavis says he’s extremely touched by the support.

Weymouth charity cyclists at the Show

A team of charity cyclists from Weymouth who peddled 924 miles from Land’s End to John O Groats have been presented with £1200 cheque at the PSP Southampton Boat Show.

The men took 10 days to make the journey and battled freezing temperatures and frost bite along the way. For two of the riders it was an extra challenge as one was recovering from a brain haemorrhage and the other a motorbike accident.

Maritime Skills Centre's Sarah Stannard at the Show

Businesses at the PSP Southampton Boat show have extended a helping hand to students at the local City College.

A number of firms have offered apprenticeships to the college’s Maritime Skills Centre, which also has a stand at the Boat Show.

Pantaenius has launched a video at the PSP Southampton Boat show, giving techniques to deal with stormy and extreme conditions from round the world sailor Skip Novak.

Managing Director John McCurdy says sailors now are exploring more distant shores and it’s important for them to be prepared.

Devon business man's new pride and joy on show

Retired business man John Wotton has taken delivery of his new boat at the Show. He's worked with Seaward to develop the model and is delighted with the result.

Round the Island swimmer Anna Wardley

Anna embarks on the latest leg of her marathon around the Isle of Wight next week – a journey of 56 miles which will take around 30 hours. She’s raising money for the Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust and the Samaritans.

Anna has also swum in the Inner Hebrides, Majorca and Guernsey but says the island is special as it’s home ground.

Lesley Joseph afloat at the Show

Lesley Joseph has taken to a pirate ship dressed as the “Enchantress of the Ocean” to launch this year’s pantomime, Robinson Crusoe at the city’s Mayflower Theatre.

The actress, who is famed for her role in Birds of her Feather, had her photo taken by the show’s luxury yachts and says she plans to send it to her co-stars to make them jealous!
